Charrette Mission
The Charrette aims to generate innovative and sustainable concepts for the development of a site within the Roath Basin masterplan.
The event aims to attract diverse participation from a range of professional disciplines and institutions concerned with the built environment, providing a major networking and professional development opportunity for the regional design community.
The event and its output will be well publicised and exhibited to promote the common interests of the organising partners Design Circle, Igloo Regeneration and Design Commission for Wales
Format of the Charrette
The aim is to secure wide representation from those interested in the built environment to include planners, urban designers, architects, engineers, students, artists etc The intention is to combine participants into teams with diverse backgrounds and levels of experience
A design brief for the subject of the charrette, a mixed use urban block on Roath Basin, will be distributed to participants just before the event. From approximately 9am to 6pm on the Friday teams will work intensively (using manual techniques) on the project, at a location near the site. On Saturday morning the work of the teams will be reviewed by a panel of experts. In addition the output from the charrette will be exhibited in the Welsh Assembly Senedd at the end of the Design Festival and published in national press.
The organisers aim to make this a great opportunity to share knowledge and develop innovative ways of working, if you would like to take part please register your interest stating names and discipline of likely participants, along with contact details, to: charrette@designcirclersawsouth.co.uk before 16 June.
Participation will be free.
