The project has been designed for a Scandinavian couple and the aim has been to create a simple, functional, zero carbon residence in the Funkis Sverige (Swedish Functionalism) idiom which enhances the surroundings and makes use of light as much as possible.
The house will be accessed via processional steps into the basement party floor and through a top lit space into the heart of the building.
All the main spaces will open onto a roofless lounge: south-west facing courtyard which has spectacular views over parkland and the hills beyond. The lounge area will be glazed for transparency, linking the front and rear garden. A bedroom floor above will appear as a glazed bridge over the building, exploiting the views and setting sun.
The house is currently in for planning with completion due 2009.
