17. CHILDRENS’ PAVILION, COPENHAGEN

James Lockwood, Cardiff

Copenhagen is a city of spires; as you meander through the streets, flashes of delicately ornate copper appear high in the sky, acting as visible markers along the horizon.

The design is a vision to revitalise a much neglected riverside square adjacent to the city library. Arranged by their geographical position, nine pavilions representing the nine spires of Copenhagen are built to provide external reading rooms and places of play for children and adults alike.

The culmination of the scheme is a 60m viewing tower which will become a beacon much-like the existing towers within the city, drawing visitors to this much neglected square.
