The site is unique, sloping down to the confluence of two rivers that run across the long side of the property. The house design takes full advantage of this riverside location by cantilevering the main living areas towards the river at first floor level. It also takes its cue from the traditional Welsh long house, both in its form and use of materials.
The house construction is a hybrid timber and steel structure clad with traditional Welsh slate and locally sourced stone. Large timber framed windows on the south and south west elevations maximise thermal benefits from solar gain whilst thermal mass, grass roofs, solar panels, wood chip boiler and recycled grey water are all integral features that ensure the house is sustainable and energy efficient.
